Email to All

1st January 2002

Dear All,
Happy New year!
I thought you would all like to share in what is a very happy moment for me.
As you know, for some time I have been working with Marge McKinnis from Pennsylvania, writing tunes for her lyrics.
I am now working for two other lyricists, and have done one song for each of them.
So, in the last 24 hours I have received the following emails. I thought you might like to read them.
If this isn't some form of success I don't know what is.
I've also attached a zip file of all the works concerned, should you want to hear what has been done.
Happy New Year, indeed!

Re: "Great Men"

Happy Happy New Year John! Should be coming in about this time over
there!!!

Somehow you managed to pull everything together in this song! I didn't know
if you would be able to or not. Really like your up songs! Also, the
Charlie Brown kind of backing you gave it. Thanks and will get other lines
to you after dinner.

Not going anywhere tonight. Making a pork roast and sauerkraut for luck and
watching the TV a little....New York Times Square always celebrates the
countdown! Hoping it all goes smoooth there for sure.

Hope your day was good.

Love,
Marge

Re:"Holding On"

Wow!!!!
So very impressed.
The melody is awesome.
I have been working with a producer and i think he will adore this! When i
make it big though i will definitely give you the credit for the song.
Perhaps we should work something out?
Its very different to the melody i would have used but i prefer yours.
Sometimes its so much nicer to have someone elses ears if that makes
sense??????
I will listen to it a bit more and if i do think of another arangement i will
let you know!
Would it be ok to send you some more lyrics at all?
oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yours sincerely
Jarrah

Warmest regards,
John.

great men

It has come to this
The end of my wish
We begin again
It is no surprise
All the tears we cry
For what has never been

The time has gone fast
Our friendship will last
I can see no end
It has given me
More than sanity
Knowing there are still great men

Good heavens, great mercy
It's seven, on Thursday
I'm betting you're sweating
Working two moons
Relaxing, with actions
Get more satisfaction
You give all your might
*(do de do doo -= line needed)*
Great men do it right
Great men every night
do it right!

I respect your pride
And your quiet times
Sometimes we need space
No one more than us
Could share what we love
We welcome each new day

And your honesty
It brings harmony
When life sounds unsure
I will promise you
Tell the world too
Open men are much more

Good heavens, great mercy
It's seven, on Thursday
I'm betting you're sweating
Working two moons
Relaxing, with actions
Get more satisfaction
You give all your might.
Great men do it right
Great men every night

Any day he says I love you
Any day he shows it too
Any day he gives you roses
Pay him what is overdue
Any night that he retires
Before quenching your desires
Just say goodnight
do it right for him.

Good heavens, great mercy
It's seven, on Thursday
I'm betting you're sweating
Working two moons
Relaxing, with actions
Get more satisfaction
You give all your might.
Great men do it right
Great men every night

holding on

I'm on the other side of this dream
and though i try and try it seems
to break away to the side you're on
will be harder than any journey i've begun

Im behind the deadlocked gate
trying hard to contemplate
the destiny of my chosen fate
trying hard not to be late

chorus

But i'm holding on
to who i used to be
holding on
to my lost identity
holding on
i never wanna part
holding on
listen to my lonely heart

(Jarrah said - "What i am after is along the lines of "foolish games" a dramatic pretty song
with piano. Not wanting drums or percussion for this peice, just piano and
perhaps strings".)

x-girlfriend

late night hang ups
callin' again to try and make me doubt his love
this time he's mine
you had your chance to keep him for your own
(but that you messed it up)
stop spreading lies
stop counting the days that someday he'll (come) return
you're wastin' (your) time
(please realize
that) between us lies no secrecy
true love
without demise

(the feelings we share
feels so right they can't be wrong
please understand
that when the sun goes down
is of me he dreams of)

chorus 1
don't seem to get it through your head, you're
only a blurred memory of his past
CAN'T SEEM TO GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD
YOU'RE ONLY A MEMORY

call him each day
you say it won't happen again
you regret
all the things you did, he knows your game
('cause all of) those empty promises
to you never meant a thing
sees through your lies
there's nothing you can tell him now
to make him try and change his mind

chorus 1
don't seem to get it through your head, you're
only a blurred memory of his past
CAN'T SEEM TO GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD
YOU'RE ONLY A MEMORY

*BRIDGE*
the feelings we share
feels so right they can't be wrong
BUT please understand
that when the sun comes up
IT'S me he thinks of
ME THAT HE THINKS OF

*INSTRUMENTAL*

*CHORUS*
repeat chorus 1
A MEMORY

(chorus 2
you were not the girl he thought you were
only a blurred memory of his past)

(chorus 1 and 2 (2x's))
