Email to Lesley

25th February 2002

Margaret did say that no-one had disagreed with her leaving ****, and we are obviously of one mind on this.

I have even gone so far as to get my head back into writing lyrics and written a song for Margaret. I don't know quite why it turned out as a blues number but it's got an easy lilt to it.

I was wondering if you would be able to sing it to the midi when we all get together on Mother's Day? I shall be sending the lyric to Margaret at her work email - I'm not planning a "surprise". I know you don't take your own singing seriously and I know you're not Bessie Smith (if you were you'd be dead and no use to the printing industry) but could you have a crack at it? All you need is attached to this email. Oh, and bottle, but we all know you've got lots of that!

John.

on your own feet

sometimes we all need
to look around us
and know that we belong
only to ourselves
all of the oceans
won't wash the past away
but you can sail on
to another time

There must be no guilt
on your horizon
there must be sunshine
and time to think
of what you're wanting
of what you need right now
of good times coming
great days ahead

on your own feet
you can start dancing
live, laugh and love
be true to yourself
you can do it strolling
you can do it running
on your own feet
nobody else

we were not raised for
raising up thunder
we put our socks on
one at a time
but in a quiet way
some people wonder how
we have come so far
and still wear a smile

on your own feet
you can start dancing
live, laugh and love
be true to yourself
you can do it strolling
you can do it running
on your own feet
nobody else
