Ambulance Girl
John Close and Catherine Clarke
Written by John Close 9 April 1998
This version recorded 1997

Recorded by Nick Rabson on his newly acquired Roland zipdisk recorder - Cathy copied him and bought one a few months later.

A silly song halfway between childish and smutty. I started thinking of this idea in the shower one day and emailed Cathy with the complete lyric by the late morning. I think it's fair to say that there is every rock 'n' roll cliche in here - doo bee doo bee doo chorus, counting the beats, quiet bit, stop time, call and response - this is genuine cheeseville, man!

i want to be an ambulance girl
and drive my ambulance right round the world
and when i am an ambulance girl
then i will come round and rescue you

i'll wear my hat right on my head
i'll drive through lights when they are red
when i'm off duty i'll be in bed
i'll come round and rescue you

doobbe doobee do - bedoo bedoo
doobbe doobee do - bedoo bedoo
doobbe doobee do - bedoo bedoo
come round and rescue you

1 - 2 - 1 2 3 4 - 1 2 3 4 just go limp
5 - 6 - 5 6 7 8 - 5 6 7 8 tighten up again!

i'll keep my uniform clean and well-pressed
i'll wear my shiny badge pinned to my chest
and if you get a cardiac arrest
i'll come round and rescue you

I don't mind working with Tony and Roy
But what would cause me maximum joy
Is if you were my ambulance boy
And come around and rescue me

doobbe doobee do - bedoo bedoo
doobbe doobee do - bedoo bedoo
doobbe doobee do - bedoo bedoo
come round and rescue me
