My Little Rosie

I did have a crack at making money out of music after I left college in 1971. Ivan Chandler had been at the same college as me, and was now working for April Music in London. I took him some songs. He was very keen and we did some demos. "My Little Rosie" was one of them. The whole thing was done live with a session guitarist and drummer, me on bass singing without headphones over miked-up instrument amplifiers and a drum kit far too near my ears for comfort. The place wasn't exactly Abbey Road.

That rosy glow on your cheeks turning red
while the sun's high, love, think on what I've said
that I will love you despite falling rain
I'll hold you in my arms again
Think on all the things that we've done and said
and then I'm sure you'll know
My little Rosie, my little Rosie, my little Rosie, my little Rosie

Open up your heart and let the sun come rain on me
Open up your heart and let you and I agree
That I will love you despite any pain
I'll hold you in my arms again
I'd be a fool to lose you
when I know there's only two of us, girl, and one of you
My little Rosie, my little Rosie, my little Rosie, my little Rosie

When the world is young, they say
we can hold the stars that shine
when the world is young, they say
the water tastes like wine
when the world is young, they say
I can know that you are mine
I don't know who's telling
but I can get through to what they're selling

So take my hand and lead me down your line
Ease my step and ease my troubled mind
For I will love you despite falling stars
I'll hold you whether you are near or far
Think on all the things that we've done and said
and then I'm sure you'll know
My little Rosie, my little Rosie, my little Rosie, my little Rosie

etc.
