Michael & Lesley

Lesley's new book!

Following the death of her brother, John Close, in 2003 at the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland Lesley has worked tirelessly for a change in the law to allow an assisted death for terminally ill, mentally competent adults who have expressed a wish to die. She has appeared many times on television and radio programmes about assisted dying as well as taking part in live debates.

In February 2014, her book Assisted Dying: Who Makes the Final Decision? co-authored with Jo Cartwright of campaigning organisation, Dignity in Dying, was published by Peter Owen. This important new book explores the historical, legal, medical and religious aspects of assisted dying and includes seven case studies of those who have suffered at the end of their lives due to the present law.
